Haku's Chronicles; Milton and Helene

Greetings, my fellow fur-treaders and humans alike! It’s me, the resident office cat, here to share a paw-some new tale of the whisker-twitching excitement that unfolded in our office this week.

I’ve been here for a while now. As a rescued cat myself, I’ve seen a lot, but what happened this week was something special. The humans call me "the office cat," but I prefer to think of myself as the Office Meowneger. My job? To ensure everything runs smoothly from my perch on the windowsill. I oversee snack distribution, keyboard naps, and, of course, monitor the humans’ behavior. But this week, something even more exciting happened: two tabby kittens joined the office family.

The Arrival of the Tabby Duo

I first heard them before I saw them. Little meows, barely audible from the back room. I’m no stranger to rescue stories, but these two younglings were a sight to behold. Small, striped, and full of spunk, they were terrified yet curious, their eyes darting around the unfamiliar surroundings. I watched from a distance as the humans scrambled to set up their little corner with food, water, and a soft bed.

The two kittens—let’s call them Milton and Helene—were huddled together, crusty eyed and unsure. They were clearly new to this whole office life thing. But I’ve been in their paw-steps before, and I knew they’d find their way. Still, it was fascinating to watch.

The Humans and Their Magic

Humans are funny creatures. They fuss and coo over us cats, always thinking they’re the ones saving us, when really, we’re the ones who rescue them. I remember when they rescued me—terrified, a little worse for wear, but with a heart full of determination to find a warm place to nap and some quiet time. These kittens, though… they’re in for an adventure.

I watched as the humans gently cared for the cats, washing eyes, checking temperatures (Not something a cat enjoys) and talking to them in a weird baby voice, telling them about their bravery and strength.

The humans worked their magic, offering treats and soft words, making the kittens feel safe. It’s always nice to see when the humans show that soft side, especially when it’s for fellow rescues.

My Perspective: A Wise Old Cat Watching the Newbies

From my perch, I could feel a sense of pride. I’ve seen a lot of rescues come and go, but there’s always something special about watching young kittens find their paws. They’ll learn the ropes soon enough—the best sunny spots, the coziest corners for naps, and, of course, which humans are the easiest to train.

But for now, they’re still figuring it out. Milton’s learning about not stuffing his tummy like he wont get another meal (rookie mistake), and Helene’s figuring out that the printer isn’t actually a monster that spits out paper. Every so often, they’ll catch me watching, and for a moment, they’ll freeze, those big eyes staring up at me as if to ask, "Is this place safe?"

And I give them a slow blink, the universal cat sign of approval. Yes, little ones, you’re safe here.

The Future Looks Bright

It’s funny how life works. One day, you’re stuffed in a box and taken to a strange place, and the next, you’re part of an office family, watching over two tiny bundles of fur as they embark on their own rescue journey.

I have no doubt they’ll do great here. In time, they’ll grow bold and confident, maybe even try to challenge me for the prime window seat. (They won’t win, but let them dream!)

For now, though, I’m content to watch them explore and adjust. There’s something deeply comforting about knowing they’ll be okay, just like I was when I first arrived. And as the Office Meowneger, I’ll keep watching over them, ensuring they’re well taken care of, as any good office cat would.

After all, we’re all in this rescue life together.

Paws and whiskers,
Haku
